There is this colleague who just joined your team. Showing a superstar CV he mastered the hiring process well and is now eagerly starting his work. Very elaborate, smartly speaking, smiling and curious. All looks good at the beginning.
At some point you feel that something is strange.
He pretends to have knowledge where he has none. He doesn’t respect the work that others have done before him.
He doesn’t pay attention. He’s not listening. He doesn’t respect people who try to help him to become a part of the team. He’s condescending. He’s loud. He’s not shy of starting arguments over small things with colleagues and superiors. He thinks he knows it all better.
And some believe him, but this time you know it better: He creates more trouble than value.
Don’t hire that person. Look behind the mask.
There is this other candidate who was just dismissed during the hiring process. Interesting CV with some relevant achievements but a bit silent during the interviews. Although everything seems to be right, there were other candidates who were more vocal and convincing.
Then, this candidate went on and tried something else. Now he creates (a lot of) value at a well respected firm.
Hire that person. Ignore the perceived weakness (which is probably a strength).
